Our Story

A Family Tradition, Brought to Market

Ohana Poi Factory was born from a simple belief: that the best poi in the world comes from the Big Island of Hawaiʻi, grown the way our kūpuna taught us... with patience, respect for the ʻāina, and deep aloha.

As a Native Hawaiian family, taro has always been more than a crop to us. It's our connection to our ancestors, our land, and our identity. We started this company to share that connection with the broader community and to support sustainable, indigenous agriculture on our islands.

Every bag of poi from our factory represents generations of knowledge, the rich volcanic soil of the Hamakua Coast, and a commitment to keeping Hawaiian food traditions alive and thriving.

The Staple of Hawaiʻi

What is Poi?

Poi is the traditional staple food of Native Hawaiians, made from the corm of the kalo plant... one of the most sacred plants in Hawaiian culture.

Deeply Nutritious

Poi is naturally high in complex carbohydrates, potassium, and vitamins. It's hypoallergenic, easily digestible, and one of the most complete plant foods on earth.

Culturally Sacred

In Hawaiian tradition, kalo is considered the elder sibling of the Hawaiian people. It holds a central place in ceremony, daily life, and the connection between the living and their ancestors.

Versatile & Delicious

Fresh poi has a subtle, earthy sweetness. It can be enjoyed alone, paired with fish or lomi salmon, or used in modern recipes from smoothies to baked goods.

Farm to Table

From Kalo to Your Table

Our process honors centuries-old tradition while meeting modern food safety standards.

01

Grown with Aloha

Our kalo is grown in a māla, a dry kalo garden, using traditional dryland farming practices passed down through generations on the Hamakua Coast.

02

Hand Harvested

We hand-select and harvest each corm at peak maturity, ensuring the best flavor and nutritional content in every batch.

03

Traditionally Pounded

The kalo is steam-cooked and then pounded... a process done with care to achieve the smooth, traditional consistency poi is known for.

04

Freshly Delivered

Packed fresh with no preservatives and shipped quickly, so you receive poi at its most flavorful and nutritious.
